First Haircut

Father's Day and first haircut day for Young One.  Here's a good shot of the curls before the cut:

This photo was from back in March, but you get the idea.

Today, not only did he get his hair cut, but he rode in style:

Post for the GPs

My parents our out of town again for three weeks.  Gone out to the Midwest to volunteer to help the flood victims.

Here's some obligatory shots of Young One to keep the GPs up to date.

Here, Young One is set up with drink, pillow and books:

Young One was getting a lot of pampering because he was recuperating from this weeks toddler ailment - roseola.  Not terribly sick, but pretty crabby.  In this photo he was either coming out of the illness or he was sufficiently bribed.

Today we took our first family trip to good ol' Coney Island.  We left in the early morning to avoid the mid-day sun's rays.  It was burnin' up pretty good at 10 am, though.

Young One got his first taste of the water at Coney:

We've determine that he takes after me as he wants to run head on into the incoming waves.  No fear whatsoever.  He had a blast and splashed and stomped in the waves like nobody's business.  I love this more iconic photo:

I was glad that we took the trip.  We rode out and back on the subway - a quick half hour trip - and when we returned to our home stop we realized that it was really hot and at least ten degrees hotter than at the beach.

Cool drinks followed.

Happy Mother's Day!

Picture heavy post for all of the mothers on the road and away from home on Mother's Day.

Young One, M and I got to a late start but still made it to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden where the cherry blossoms were past bloom but the tree peonies were right on.

Young One was in between his two big fits in this photo.  Yes, we were the people walking with the SCREAMING child in the stroller, in case you missed us.  YO had a blast pushing his mini-stroller,

until he decided that he would much rather sit in and be pushed in his stroller.  The mini-stroller that is.

All in all, a good day.

Snow Day

Mid-February and winter is finally here.  Friday brought the first real snow of winter with six inches falling in Brooklyn when all was said and done.  I took Young One outside to check out this new stuff - snow.

016

He was less than thrilled.  He was not interested in learning about the fun of newly fallen snow.  Crunching it under your feet, oogling the snowflakes that land on your sleeve, squeezing together a snow ball, hurling your body down a hill covered with the white stuff, and so on.  He stood stiff as a board, totally uninterested in the snow's potential.

Oh well.  Maybe next year.

Better, Better

We're much better around here, after three weeks of day care induced plague.

008

We were all hit pretty hard, fevers, GI yuckies, sinus messes.  I think we've emerged on the other side.  I'm better - I didn't drink coffee for a few days, a sure sign that I'm ill.  But coffee was part of today's morning routing, finally.  Grandma, Young One and I are off to the playground before the blistering winds blow in.  M gets to do some laundry and rest in between.

Here's what I wound up when I started to feel better.

Icky All Around

We're just getting over the flu.  And now we're teething - at least three new molars!  And yes, we're all teething because when Young One is teething, we all feel it.  And hear it.

Knitting Update

Its been awhile since I wrote about knitting.  When a child comes into the picture I've seen a lot of blogs change focus, and this one is no exception.

Young One has been sick the last few days with a fever over 104 degrees, Eek.  Poor little guy has been lying around or sleeping most of the day, with little bursts of energy after his dose of Tylenol kicks in.  I haven't done much for the last few days other than keep the apartment and us going, and comforting Young One.  I was able to squeeze in a little knitting after he went to sleep for the night.

Here's the back of the Central Park Hoodie.  I'm pretty pleased with myself.  The pattern is very straight forward which is good for my lack of attention span these days.  The color is waaaaay off - the yarn is a light green Cascade 220 Heathers color 9207.  Its part of my obsession with all things lime that emerged about a year ago.  Can't explain it at all.  On the upper left is about half of the Left Front of the cardigan.  While I wish I had used a different color - a jewel toned blue or wine color - I still feel a little jazzed about this sweater which will hopefully carry me through the Right front, the two arms and the finishing.  Having a little momentum is important for me to keep an item out of the UFO pile.  I think I have at least 10 UFOs, some from a few years ago.

Over Christmas I finished this little number out of necessity, since I've lost my hats.

Yes, I look like turtle lady supreme, but I did take this photo myself, during one of the few moments that Young One did not require my undivided attention.  I used Cascade Alpaca Bulky which is oh so warm and soft.   The pattern is a simple K3, P1.  Mindless knitting.

Here's a parting shot of Young One.  His latest trick is that he has learned how to clasp his hands.

Post-Christmas Mulch

Sunday 8 a.m.   Get dressed and head off to the Park Slope Food Coop for milk, other baby supplies and some nosh for the week.  Drive up Berkeley Place between 6th and 7th Avenues to an oddly surreal sight.  Both sides of the street are lined with parked cars, as usual.  But fifteen, count em, fifteen cars had ex-Christmas trees tied to their roofs.

I understand why trees migrate from living rooms to the curb, but why to the tops of cars?

This is why.
